Your time spent with Norman Carr Safaris will usually be tailor made for you and your party. All of our camps are individually designed to complement each other. To make the most of the extremely diverse habitats, species and experience we suggest a combination of the camps. We believe that we have found a balance between rustic elegance and the more luxurious side of the bush without losing touch with the true wilderness.
The rooms are generally spacious, each containing two three-quarter or one king-sized bed. Chinzombo, Mchenja and Kakuli have Family Villas/Tents with up to 3 additional beds for children. There is wardrobe and shelving storage in the rooms at all camps, and an indoor and/or outdoor comfortable seating area and table. Rooms in all camps have en-suite bathroom facilities (in the bush camps these are private open-air bathrooms), with plenty of hot water, towels and toiletries. After dark, a member of staff will accompany you to and from your room, lighting the way and watching out for local wildlife.
The electric supply at Chinzombo is fairly reliable, and 3-pin UK sockets are provided, along with eco friendly cooling system in the bedroom, fans, a minibar fridge, hairdryer, kettle and coffee-making facilities. At the bush camps, the electricity supply is solar powered and runs the lights and heats hot water in each of the rooms; there are no charging points in the rooms themselves. The main area has a charging point for small items only such as mobile phones, camera batteries and small laptops.
Our laundry service is free and available at all camps. Items are usually returned washed and pressed on the same or next day. Please let the camp staff know if your clothes have any special laundering instructions and be aware that washing is all by hand.
Drinks are included in the rates at all of our camps including standard spirits, beer, house wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee. All rooms at Chinzombo have mini-bars. Premium wine, champagne and top shelf spirits are charged as extra.
There is a pool at Mchenja and in every Chinzombo Villa there is a private pool built into the deck area.
Each camp has a selection of reference books to which you may refer to investigate the day’s sightings or to find out more about the history and geography of the area. The map room, a large and comfortable lounge area at Kapani, also holds a selection of board games.
There is a small gift shop at Chinzombo that stocks a selection of locally produced crafts and textiles. The Mulberry Mongoose workshop is based next to our Kapani Homestead and Office and guests can call in here to purchase jewellery and learn about the company’s commitment to anti-poaching and local employment. Tribal Textiles is located 10 mins from Mfuwe Airport
There is some cell phone coverage at Chinzombo but not at the remote bush camps.
There is no internet available at any of the bush camps, however there will be in-room internet available at Chinzombo with limited ‘bush bandwidth’ so be patient.
The company carries public liability insurance, however it is essential that guests take out their own personal travel insurance before they travel.
