The Zambia Safari - Norman Carr Safaris
1950 – 2010 - 60 YEARS OF SAFARI EXCELLENCE AND STILL WALKING
Welcome to Norman Carr Safaris in Zambia's Luangwa Valley.
Welcome to Norman Carr Safaris, "Zambia's original safari company" based in the South Luangwa National Park, home of the African walking safari.
The Luangwa Valley has long been regarded as one of Africa's finest wildlife reserves. Its unspoilt natural beauty and abundant game make it an ideal destination for an African safari holiday. The late Norman Carr started the first safari company here in 1950 and more than 50 years on, we're still leading the way in Zambian wildlife safaris.
Walking Safaris
Zambia is the home of walking safaris. Norman Carr Safaris, as the first company to have practiced such safaris over 50 years ago, is Zambia’s original safari company. As soon as you are on foot in the bush you become a part of it. You can hear, smell and feel the bush as well as see it.
Birding Safaris
There are two elements essential to the enjoyment of any African birding safari. Plenty of birds and excellent guiding. In Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park we are lucky enough to have birds aplenty and the guides at Norman Carr Safaris are among the best in Africa.
Emerald Season Trips
The greener months of January through March are an exciting time to be on safari in the South Luangwa. Norman Carr Safaris is the only Zambian safari operator to open a luxury bush camp in the Luangwa at this time of year. Kakuli opens in mid January and closes again in early April.
Special Interest Safaris
There are many different aspects to any Zambia safari experience. At Norman Carr Safaris we pride ourselves on offering guests the ultimate in exclusive, tailor made Zambian safaris. Whatever your specific interests whilst on a safari in Zambia, our excellent team of guides will ensure your total enjoyment.
Our history and experience combine to make us the specialists in safari holidays in Zambia. With Kapani Lodge and four individually designed bush camps, we pride ourselves on offering a varied range of luxury safaris. Game drives and walks are available from all of our camps whilst night drives take place in the first hours of darkness, the best time to find the predators in action.
Enjoy a walking safari between any of our remote bush camps or relax in the luxury and style of our main Lodge, Kapani. However you choose to enjoy your African safari holiday, you will be escorted throughout by a team of Zambia's best safari guides.
Walking safaris have rightly been described as the ultimate way to experience the African wilderness. One becomes a part of the environment rather than just a spectator. There are few experiences more exciting than tracking big game through the African bush.
We can tailor your Zambia safari holiday to meet your needs. Whether you have just a few days or a couple of weeks to spend, as Zambia's premier safari company we will be able to put a package together to suit you.
Most of our safari holidays in Zambia start at our camps in the South Luangwa and then move on to other National Parks and to the Victoria Falls, or are completed with a few days on the beach by the Indian Ocean. Please contact us or read on to find out more.
Why Zambia?
Zambia, "the Real Africa", is regarded by many as the continent's greatest secret, ranging from the mighty Victoria Falls to the world renowned National Parks of the Luangwa and Zambezi valleys. The fact that the country has, for so long, been largely overlooked as a tourist destination is one of its greatest assets. The wilderness areas are pristine and the country offers its guests views of the African bush that have not changed for centuries.
The opportunity to explore these areas and to view the wildlife that inhabits them without having to share the experience with others is something very special that is hard to find in many parts of Africa these days.
Why Select Norman Carr Safaris for your Zambia Safari?
Norman Carr spent over 50 years devoting himself to the development of the South Luangwa National Park. In the 1950s he pioneered walking safaris in the Zambian bush. His legacy is Norman Carr Safaris, where conservation and care of the local community remain a priority, and where guiding is still based on the principles that Norman developed. We are all proud to take responsibility for the legacy left by such a great man.
The guiding team at Norman Carr Safaris is widely regarded to be the most experienced and knowledgeable in Zambia - many of us were trained by Norman Carr himself. The company has set up and is committed to a program of guide exchanges allowing us to expand our knowledge by experiencing similar wilderness operations both in other Parks in Zambia and also around the world.
