Rooms and Facilities
Your time spent with Norman Carr Safaris will be tailor made for you and your party. You can choose from the accommodation in any of our five camps, although we recommend selecting to stay at a combination of them. All of our camps are individually designed to complement each other. We like to think that we have found a balance between rustic eloquence and the more luxurious side of the bush.
Rooms
The rooms are generally spacious, each containing two single or one king-sized bed. Additional beds for children can be added. There is wardrobe and shelving storage in the rooms at all camps, and an indoor and/or outdoor comfortable seating area and table. Rooms in all camps have en-suite bathroom facilities, with plenty of hot water, towels and toiletries. After dark, a member of staff will willingly accompany you to and from your room as desired, lighting the way and watching out for local wildlife.
Electricity
The electric supply at Kapani is fairly reliable, and 3-pin UK sockets are provided, along with overhead fans, a minibar fridge, hairdryer, kettle and coffee-making facilities. At the bushcamps, the electric supply depends on the electricity generated during the day and so is minimal. However, mobile phone, camera, DVD player and other chargers can usually be charged for you during the day.
Laundry
Our laundry service is free and available at all camps. Items are usually returned washed and pressed on the same day.
Drinks
Drinks are included in the rates at all of our camps although we do carry a list of premium wines and champagnes that can be purchased for an additional charge. All rooms at Kapani have mini-bars.
Dining
All meals, comprising breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and dinner, are included. Most meals are served buffet-style, but for dinner you will generally be seated with the persons who have accompanied you on your safaris that day, plus your guide, giving you the opportunity to discuss your experiences of the day together. However, other arrangements can certainly be accommodated. Dinner consists of a three-course meal, freshly prepared, cooked in camp and served to you at your table.
Swimming
Kapani has a secluded swimming pool and there is also a small pool at Mchenja.
Books
Each camp has a selection of reference books to which you may refer, to investigate the day’s sightings or to find out more about the history or geography of the area. The map room, a large and comfortable lounge area at Kapani, also holds a selection of board games for your enjoyment.
Local Crafts
There is a small gift shop at Kapani that stocks a selection of locally produced items.
Telephone/Internet
There is cell phone coverage at Kapani but not at the remote bushcamps. Internet access is limited to dire emergencies only for the time being although we are working on getting wireless access - as of Aug 2010, this is not yet available so please do not expect internet access.
Insurance
The company carries public liability insurance but it is strongly recommended that guests take out their own personal travel insurance.
