Tongabezi, Kaya Mawa and Norman Carr Safaris have come together for the ultimate in experiential travel. Three locations, two private houses and two bush camps exclusively for you and your family or friends.
Please note that all of our safaris are tailor-made; this itinerary is just a suggestion and can be amended to better fit your requirements.
4 nights Tangala House or exclusive use of Sindabezi Island
(both part of Tongabezi Lodge)
4 nights Norman Carr Bush Camps (2 x Luwi, 2 x Kakuli)
4 nights Ndomo House, Kaya Mawa, Likoma Island, Lake Malawi
Norman Carr Safaris together with Tongabezi and Kaya Mawa are pleased to offer this exceptional 12 night safari taking in the most exclusive owner operated camps and private houses in Zambia and Lake Malawi.
Combine a multitude of activities (white water rafting, scuba diving, walking and driving safaris just to name a few) with the feeling of seclusion and privacy in your exclusive part of the bush or in your own private accommodations. Great for groups of friends wanting a retreat from the hustle and bustle or for families looking for a special holiday alone.
| Day 1 (Tangala House or Sindabezi Island – at Tongabezi Lodge, Livingstone) | |
Arrive Livingstone International Airport where you are met by your driver for the transfer to Tangala House. Depending on the time of your arrival you will be given lunch or afternoon tea and then you may have a chance to head out on an afternoon activity before returning for dinner. |
|
| Day 2 - 4 (Tangala House or Sindabezi Island) | |
Tangala House is a luxurious family home on the banks of the Zambezi River, close to Tongabezi; it lies 15km upstream of Victoria Falls. The house has four bedrooms, three with ensuite bathrooms, and a 12m private swimming pool. Stylishly designed and furnished, it comes with a vehicle and boat, chef, waiters and private guide all courtesy of Tongabezi. Ideal for a family safari, Tangala House sleeps up to 8, has a children’s playroom, spacious kitchen-dining room and satellite TV, video, Hi Fi and fireplace. The rooms are enclosed, with large glass fitted windows to keep out the insects and allow guests to enjoy magnificent views across the Zambezi. Sindabezi Island is unique – the discerning traveller’s best kept secret. An idyllic, exclusive camp on your very own private isle on the Zambezi River. Experience the large number of activities in the area during the day and return to a tranquil haven at night. Sindabezi has only five open-sided thatched cottages, allowing guests to soak up the sights and sounds of the African bush in the perfect, pristine setting. Views across the flood plains of the Zambezi and into the nearby National Park complete the experience. |

| Day 5 and 6 (Luwi Bush Camp – Norman Carr Safaris, South Luangwa) | |
You will catch a flight from Livingstone to Mfuwe for the South Luangwa National Park and your safari with Norman Carr Safaris and be transferred to Luwi Bush Camp where you will have exclusive use of camp. Luwi is a seasonal bush camp nestled under huge mahogany trees on the banks of a permanent lagoon. Due to its remote location there are not many roads in the area so activities are centred on walking safaris. This fact makes Luwi Bush Camp one of the most enthralling camps in Zambia. Accommodation is in four huts that are made of grass and thatch with polished mud floors. Each room is designed utilising trees and natural vegetation wherever possible. The design of these rooms lends the camp a rustic appeal and provides a truly African bush experience. An early start gives you the full day to explore the game-rich area close to Luwi. Game viewing activities from Luwi are mostly on foot and your morning walk brings you back to camp for more food and a bit of down time before the evening safari during which you will have the opportunity to view some of the nocturnal inhabitants of the bush. |
|
| Day 7 and 8 (Kakuli Bush Camp) | |
You will transfer to your next bush camp this morning, either walking or driving (or a combination of both). You will arrive at Kakuli in time for brunch. Kakuli is situated on the confluence of the Luwi and Luangwa rivers. A great stopover in the middle of a walking trail or as a base for a more static wildlife safari, the gameviewing and driving safaris in this area are renowned for being some of the best in Zambia. There are four spacious, traditional safari tents under shady thatched roofs, each with an open-air bathroom. All of the tents overlook the river with stunning views up and down this hippo-packed stretch of the Luangwa. You’ll have two full days here exploring the South Luangwa and all it has to offer. Kakuli offers both walking and driving safaris and is situated in one of the most game rich areas of the National Park. |
|
| Day 9 - 12 (Ndomo House, Kaya Mawa, Likoma Island, Lake Malawi) | |
The drive from your bush camp to Mfuwe Airport takes you along the Luangwa river for the last time. Your flight will take you via Lilongwe and onto Likoma Island in the midst of the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi. Kaya Mawa (meaning “maybe tomorrow”) is situated at the southern tip surrounded by mango trees and ancient baobabs.Ndomo is ideal for those wanting complete privacy from the outside world, a great family home or a magical escape for two; perfect for a wind down after safari. The house is located on the South West corner of Likoma Island with uninterrupted views across to the neighbouring island, Chizimulu, and on to mainland Malawi 72km away. A year round sunset is a secret surprise, as far as we know the only place on the lake. Built around boulders, rough rock walls contrast dramatically against smooth plastered walls; character filled rooms meander intriguingly around the rocky hill.
The house comprises four bedrooms, three of which are ensuite, a sitting room with deck, kitchen/dining room, study/media room, three large terraces, courtyard, outside dining and barbeque area, swimming pool and secluded beach. The house is fully staffed with a nanny, cook, housekeeper, groundstaff and watchmen. You have four days to enjoy the splendour of this luxurious and peaceful beach resort. There are plenty of activities to be enjoyed both on and under the water. Lake Malawi is Africa’s 3rd largest lake and is home to a wide variety of aquatic life - the clear waters around Likoma island are excellent for diving and snorkelling. The Island itself has plenty of treats in store and you are free to explore on foot, by bicycle or on quad bikes. A visit to St Peter’s Cathedral is highly recommended. This remarkable building, built by missionaries at the turn of the 20th century measures over 100mts in length. |
|
| Day 13 (Departure) | |
The flight from Likoma Island will take you to Lilongwe from where you will connect to your onward flight. |
