Bush Camps and Masterchefs!
The rains are gone, "winter" is here and our bush camps open this week. Rain was sparse this year in the Luangwa so we expect the wildlife to be early to the waterholes and action to be plentiful all season.

As many of you who have already been on an NCS safari know - our camps are located along the course of the beautiful and dynamic Luwi River which meanders through some of the most remote areas of the South Luangwa National Park. This seasonal sand river carves it’s way across the Northern sector of the park through dramatically varying habitats to the confluence with the Luangwa at Kakuli Camp.

The eponymous Luwi Camp which has been described as “the best little bush camp in Africa” is the starting point for our new and exciting safari adventure - The Luwi River Trail, exploring the wild areas up towards the source of the Luwi where no other people ever go. Then a few days are spent at Nsolo, downstream of Luwi and at Kakuli which is on the confluence with the Luangwa. Guests can also opt for a night out under the stars with just a mossie net – a guide, a scout and the camp fire for company, miles from “civilization”.

Led by veteran guide Shadreck Nkhoma and Batwell Mvula, one of the Luangwa’s most experienced Scouts, this eight night privately guided safari is perfect for adventurers and those looking for a really involving wildlife and wilderness experience. The camps are tiny – only 4 rooms each and each one is designed to blend with it’s surroundings. Using natural materials in their construction and powered with solar energy these camps are about as “green” and wild as you can get without compromising in any way on comfort and quality of food and service. You are able to set your own pace and create your own adventure with your guide and scout.

New faces and lots and lots of cookbooks - Sarah Petersen pictured above left has re-joined us for the safari season. Sarah (a professional chef) came and did some chef training with our team earlier this year and we're thrilled that she has come back to help run Kakuli Camp along with Aubrey. She came armed with dozens of fabulous cook books donated by her friends and colleagues. Our chefs were absolutley thrilled as you can imagine. Thank you to Sarah and all those who sent these superb books. Also - watch out for Sarah as she was shortlisted for the BBC's Professional Masterchef this year - she has postponed her entry until next year - we will keep you updated.
