URGENT - Yellow Fever Vaccination for South Africa Update

The Zambian Tourist Board has clarified the new Yellow Fever vaccination requirements.

South Africa recently announced that anyone traveling to SA from Zambia must have a yellow fever vaccination certificate - even for passengers in transit.

The original statement from the South African department of Health only refers to passengers travelling between South Africa and Zambia who now require a yellow fever certificate. There is, for example, a similar requirement for passengers travelling between South Africa and Kenya and South Africa and Tanzania.

Passengers travelling between Europe and Zambia and NOT passing through South Africa do not need a Yellow Fever certificate.

This ruling comes into place as at 01 July 2011. A yellow fever vaccination needs to be done minimum 10 days prior to travelling.

You will not be allowed to get it on arrival in South Africa due to the 10 day period.

Angola, Argentina, Benin, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic Chad, Colombia, Guinea-Bissau, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guyana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guyana, Kenya, Liberia Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan ,Suriname, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania Venezuela, Zambia

We are working with the Tourist Board and the Ministry of Health to find out why this new rule has come in to being. As far as we are aware, yellow fever is not prevalent in Zambia. Do let us know if you need any more information.
