Alison King, July '08
A huge resounding "thank" you to everyone, Christina, our Guides, Camp Managers and all Camp Staff. It was truly a memorable and exciting visit.
Starting with arrival at Luwi with several tsetse fly bites which were quickly soothed by Sam who offered slices of sausage tree fruit to rub on - after that no problem with flies at all. Luwi was a special camp. Cozy, friendly, very educational. Walks with Sam were fantastic. Great sundowner spot with honking hippos and large crocs. Even had an interrupted dinner where we all climbed into the truck to spot a leopard very close by. Great stuff!
Kakuli had a superb riverside location with all those noisy hippos and hyenas. Giraffe at the small waterhole and lions roaring around the camp each evening. Found 3 male lions and 1 lioness whilst out on foot - that's quite a feeling to be so close!
Walked from Kakuli to Mchenja Camp - set by a beautiful ebony grove with lots of mischievous vervet monkeys and baboons scampering around the rooms and peeking down from the trees. Learnt so much from the guides and found the experience out on foot just amazing. Fabulous food in all camps - just how do the staff manage in such remote environments? The last night at Mchenja was very memorable - superb walk and sunset, saw a honey badger out early whilst on foot then on the truck came across a leopard with a kill - only to have the kill taken from under her nose by two hyenas. Thank you all for a very special time in Zambia.
| Norman Carr Safaris: | Alison, whilst we are well aware that the gameviewing in the Luangwa is usually excellent it does appear that you were lucky on your recent safari. All we can say is long may these wonderful sightings continue! |
